If your patio doesn't have a roof over it you can still protect yourself and your guests from direct sunlight and enjoy time on the patio. This can be done by purchasing a patio umbrella.

Umbrella Material: When looking for umbrellas you will want to check out the fabric that your umbrella is made out of. You will want to purchase durable material such as canvas to last the longest. You can also spray fabric protection on the top of the umbrella where it will last longer, and it will add protection from the harmful sun rays, keeping it from fading. Products such as Scotchgard are great for this purpose. The material that you choose should also protect you from the UV rays from the sun. Some fabric will allow the rays to go through the fabric. Make sure that your protected from the sun with the fabric you choose.

You can set patio umbrellas around your patio by using free-standing patio stands. These have the ability to be placed anywhere on the patio usually around seating and can be moved easily.
