Private Carp Fishing In France Trips You Can Take

Persons that love to fish will find carp fishing in France to be a great holiday. There are many small lakes found in the French countrysides that are inhabited by very large carp. Most of these lakes are fished with catch and release programs so the large carp you land this year will still be there waiting again next year.

Many of the lakes that offer a French holiday for carp fishing are privately owned. This means that you will pay for the privilege of fishing in the lakes, but for the price you pay, you get the opportunity to fish the entire lake with a limited number of anglers fishing at the same time you are fishing. Many times, if you have a group of carp fishing friends, your group may be the only one on the lake.

Carp can grow to be quite large. Many are found in the forty to fifty pound range and there are some that will go to over 100 pounds. Therefore, when you get a carp on your line, you are going to have a fight to bring it to the shore.

Carp anglers are going to need some of the following equipment in order to be successful.

Your fishing rod should be a minimum of six feet in length. It should be a medium action rod. Remember, that longer rods make it easier to land a big fish.

For a reel, you will need to choose either a spin casting reel or a spinning reel that has a good drag. The reel needs to hold 120 yards or more of 12 pound test fishing line.

The hooks you choose may depend on the rules of the lake where you are fishing. Private lakes using catch and release programs normally require hooks without barbs. They may also specify the exact size of hook you can use, although a general rule is a size 6 hook.

Corks or bobbers are not used in carp fishing. If a carp feels any resistance when picking up the bait they will drop the bait and you will not catch the fish. In the same vein of thought, only small split shot sinkers or slip sinkers should be used when carp fishing.

Without corks, you will need to watch your line closely to know when a fish has took the bait. Keep your reel open and watch the line or use a fish indicator made of Styrofoam that will pop off the line when the fish pulls on it.
