What A Wheelchair Vehicle Could Do For You

Many people who use a wheelchair permanently or some of the time have found that having a wheelchair vehicle that is made to fit their chair has saved them a lot of time, especially when it comes to having to lift the chair in and out. This kind of vehicle has allowed people to get in and out of the vehicle independently as well as a lot easier than it would been previously.

The wheelchair vehicle has been made around the needs of the chair user and carers, to make life a lot easier and trips out short or long a lot less stressful, allowing the chair user to get to places that beforehand would have proved difficult or impossible.

To get the chair in and out without having to take it apart you can choose a vehicle that is fitted with a lift, the simple functions will allow the user to remain in the chair while it is lifted into the side or back of the vehicle.

If your budget is tight then an alternative to the lift would be a ramp that can be folded out easily and quickly for almost immediate access.

Because the wheelchair vehicles have been created around the user and carer(s) many are included on the motability scheme, this is applicable for anyone who is on the highest rate of mobility allowance. The way it works is that the money that you are usually paid for mobility will pay for the car so you are not left out of pocket. If you want to go for something out of the range you will be asked to contribute but only a fraction of the original vehicle price.

For wheelchair users that drive or would like to once given the all clear from your specialist some of the vehicles have adaptations, or can be adapted further with add on adaptations. To make it easier to get in and out of the chair there are some vehicles that have a driver seat that swivels round and will save a lot of time and energy. It will also aid carers and prevent injury's involved with lifting the chair to and from the vehicle.

Having a wheelchair vehicle will take away a lot of the pressure involved and the time that many people have to take bringing the chair in and out. The great plus also is that the vehicle allows the user to stay in the wheelchair so that more time and stress is also saved, especially if the chair has oxygen or other equipment on or attached to it. This will mean that this can also remain on the chair throughout the journey so it does not have to be reattached once you have reached your destination.
