Selecting And Settling In A Young Kitten

It doesnt matter if you are a first time cat owner or a time-served old-timer, finally fetching home your new kitten afer all the wait is a very exciting time. As you head to the breeders to select your fledgling pet, keep these points in mind to assure that the animals starting weeks in your home are positive for both of you.

Picking a Kitten The first step in bringing a young feline comrade into your family is choosing the correct kitten. Start by deciding whether you want a show cat or merely a companion animal. If you wish to show the cat, make certain it fits the breed standard well.

Choose a kitten that is vigorous, has bright eyes and a clean coat. Check for whatever obvious signs of malady or soreness, and do not pick out a kitten that has them.

If you are buying from a cat breeder, require to see the parent cats if possible. This will help you visualize the potential disposition of your brand-new pet.

Bringing Your Kitten Home Once you have chosen a kitten, you will need to take some time to help it adjust to your home. Make certain your cats supply of clear, fresh water never runs out from the first day it comes home.

Provide it with nourishing, quality dried foods. A well balanced diet from the outset will help your cat acclimatise a lot quicker and easily.

Settling In Put the kitten in a warm, safe room within its carrier with the door open. Do not pressure the kitten out of the carrier, simply leave it to explore as it wishes to. Provide food, water and a litter tray within the room, making it obvious where they are.

Spend time in the room, and eventually your kitten will come to you. You could well make your new feline afraid of you if you try to hasten the bonding process.

If you afford the cat sufficient time, you will establish a reciprocally trusting and positive relationship, and you will soon make a lifelong friend.
