Some Rules On Making Sure That A Cat Is Extremely Happy

If you have never been owned by a cat, and you are about to have a cat become a member of your household, then understand one thing. You will never own the cat, you will always be its servant.

Don't for one second think your cat will eat any old cat food. Even though a cat can't talk, it will soon enough let you know what food it likes, and woe betide you if you try to give it anything else. Cats have a time they will eat, and you won't change that either.

You'll possibly find your cat wants to sleep on your bed. Don't even think about locking it in your kitchen or utility, because it will make an incredible racket night after night, literally hurling itself against the locked door until you relent.

You need to understand that your cat probably chose you. Whether it arrived in your garden or at your front door as a pitiful crying apparently abandoned wretch, or you think you selected it from a litter or from the stray cats home, then don't kid yourself. It chose you.

Whatever you do, never add another cat to your household. If your cat has kittens so be it, but don't add a new grown cat. If you do and your resident cat has its nose put out of joint, then you will suffer disapproval in the form of empty litter trays and your cat doing its business in various corners of the house.

Cats do catch and eat wildlife, that is in your nature. If your cat really loves you it will bring the conquests home to show you, so be prepared for some nasty shocks on the mat.

Cats are not loyal in the slightest. Whoever feeds them the best, they will give their love to. If your cat has stopped coming home at night, and it is getting fat, then it is committing feline adultery. It is eating out.

How can any animal bite, scratch, ruin your clothes, and furniture with their claws, and still be encouraged to do it again. Cats are like this, and yet we just love it when they deign to sit on your lap, then moult all over your best jersey whilst picking it to bits with their claws.

To the end we love our cats. All we need is to hear the musical sound of a cat purring to melt our hearts. The thing we don't realise is that this sound is the cat's most potent weapon, and it uses it successfully to get what it wants, which is normally the knee of a warm human being.
