Starting in the early 1600s Persians became domesticated. They were initially bred in in Persia, but then transferred to Italy. Appearances have changed, but not drastically. Many breeders are selective on the process, and are quite particular about the cats that they mix.
The purchasing aspect of obtaining a Persian cat can be arduous at best. Try to only do business with breeders who have many satisfied customers, can provide a lot of information on the history of the cat and their own experiences, and overall try to get as much information as possible from the breeder to ensure no fraud or scams are taking place.
A Persian cat an be an expensive purchase, so always remember that taking them to the vet is a mandatory procedure. Protecting one's investment is improtant, and usually it will indeed mean that a few hundred dollars in veterinarian bills must be paid in the process. With much care and proper hygiene regimens, a typical Persian cat can live anywhere from one to two decades in age. This is a fairly impressive track record- one that can easily be reached through responsible care taking abilities.
Persian breeders should be finicky. If you want to be a breeder, consider all of the circumstances first. Breeding Persians is a challenging task, and quite difficult. Many owners who buy a Persian cannot maintain its health, or fur.
Persians are high maintenance pets, and potential buyers do not realize that. If you want to breed, you should get your Persians in mind tested for Polycystic kidney disease. PKD is a potentially fatal disease, and can easily be inherited.
