Chicken Coop Building Plans

When you set out to build a chicken house yourself, there are many different things to consider. When you start your chicken coop building project first you need to pick from numerous chicken coop building plans, the one that's right for you. And it's not just the size as you'll discover here.

Of all the different features to consider for your coop, the first one and the most important one is the location where the chicken coop will sit. I suggest keeping it close to the house , as it will allow you to keep an eye out for predators, and provide more protection for your flock.

If you want your hens to lay lots of eggs, one of the things to keep in mind is to provide enough room inside the coop. Figure that you will have to have about 4 square feet per chicken. The more at ease they are in their environment, the better your chances will be of finding freshly laid eggs in the coop on a regular basis.

Setting up a proper environment for hens to lay their eggs in, roost, and sleep is a critical part of this building and design process.

As you look at the layout of the coop, consider the materials you will use to build with. While people who have made these in the past will tell you to use different things, the truth is that you have many options when it comes to what you use. But remember, even though you can go with a pretty cheap material, if you want your coop to last longer, and withstand severe weather, keeping the hens warm inside, then you should go with a higher quality.

Make sure you have plenty of space for a chicken run in the spot you choose for your coop. This is yet another vital feature of a good chicken house.

Having a comfortable place for your birds to rest, sleep, and lay eggs, is all that's really required of a good chicken coop. It doesn't need to be perfect, just good enough and provide these elements for the flock.
