Dogs That Are Good For Children

What is so great about having a dog? Well, dog lovers have the answer to this question. Not dog lovers are always wondering about it. For all dog lovers having a little fur ball running around the house and discovering all those new tricks that there are to learn is a lot of fun. Dog lovers also know what with the fun comes tons of responsibilities.

Do not get a dog just because you think the dog is cute, or because you want a dog to protect your home. If you have small ones in the house, you need to be very careful about what kind of dog you want to adopt. You have surely learned of dogs that have attacked children or even the adults of the house. This could definitively be prevented if you choose the right dog to adopt.

When you are looking for a family dog, you have to choose a breed of dog good with children. Some breeds are not very patient when it comes to the little one and they can pose a threat to them, therefore you should make your diligent research when choosing a dog for your family. Finding a dog that is good with kids is a most is you have little ones at home.

Among the most ideal breed for a household dog is the Labrador retriever. This large dog has the most docile and kind heart of all. A Labrador retriever is extremely amiable and isn't aggressive or super-hyper. The breed is acknowledged for their playfulness, patience and intelligence. The dog has a good gentle temperament that makes it popular with the young, the aged and even the disabled. The Labrador retriever enjoys pleasing people and is extremely accommodating. This breed requires a great deal of exercise so they are kept active and boredom is avoided.

The Golden retriever is another dog that is great for the family. This dog is also a big dog, and just like the Labrador retriever is gentle in nature, kind and well mannered. They love to be around people and also need to be exercised to avoid boredom. They are friendly with other dogs and cats, and in overall have a great disposition. One thing to keep in mind when choosing a Golden retriever is that they need to be groom, due to their long hair. A golden retriever is the perfect companion for children and people who are outdoor enthusiasts.

Another dog that the potential owner might want to consider, especially if the Labrador retriever and the Golden retriever are too large in size for what they are looking for, is the Beagle. The Beagle is a smaller dog, that is great with children and they can be a lot of fun to be around. Beagles are submissive and not aggressive, but they are good watch dogs because of their wailing bark. If left alone they tend to get bored and will howl. Because they are very playful and because of their small size they are great for smaller children.

Keep in mind that not two dogs are alike, even dogs that belong to the same breed can be very different. Thinking that just because you got a dog good with children will guarantee the safety of your child is not always right. You need to make certain that your particular pet is friendly and gets along well with children. Sometimes some dogs have behavioral problems and you need to make sure that your dog is not one of them.
