The other type of mange is called sarcoptic mange. It is the worst of the two because the mite goes way down into the skin, making the itch much deeper and more intense. It is also harder to relieve, so dogs tend to scratch harder and can therefore be more likely to get infections. It is highly contagious and affects most animals, not just dogs.

The first thing to do is examine the home life of the dog. If it is not getting what it needs, now is the time to start providing. Keep the dog alone, away from all other animals until the mange is gone. Clean everything it touches, especially cloth. Think of how you isolate and clean when it comes to head lice. Use a sulfurated lime rinse prescribed by your vet.

Some are dangerous enough to even kill your dog if they are incompatible. This is mostly for the internal medications, which have been known to cause brain problems and damage.
