Teaching your Dog to Follow Commands

Dogs are generally considered man's best friends. It is not a surprise then to see dog owners taking much of their time teaching their pets to follow commands. However, since dog training normally involves a great deal of time, most dog owners have somehow started relying for quick and easy to follow dog training tips. Dog are very smart creatures after all but then there may be times they tend to misbehave. Therefore, if you are a dog owner, there are basically a lot of dog obedience training tips you can try to consider, whether you are still a new owner or already an experienced one.

Of the many dog obedience trainings, the potty training is considered one of the most critical ones. The most ideal thing to do is to buy a bell from your local store and then tying it on your home's doorknob. When you take your dogs outside, be sure to have him ring that bell and then ask him "Gotta go potty? Gotta go outside?" Once the dog is already used to doing this, he understands that when he rings the bell, it means he's gotta take a potty. However, be careful when doing this method as there may be dogs that ring the bell not because they will go potty but because they simply want to go out. When outside, accompany your dogs and mention them "go potty" so that they'll get used to it.

'Sit' is another dog training command dog owners can do by themselves as long as they understand how to do it. Before starting teaching your dogs how to follow commands like 'sit', or any types of dog obedience training for that matter, it is always ideal to prepare some treats and break them into tiny pieces. This will basically serve as rewards when dogs properly follow commands. When teaching them how to sit, stand in front of your dog and make sure he is facing you. Firmly say 'sit' as you take your hand and push him gently until he is already in the sitting position. Reward him with your treats the moments he performs the commands properly. Do this often, about five to ten times. Additionally, training your dogs how to lay down is relatively easy. You can start by making them sit and then pulling their front legs away from each other. Do this until your dogs are already in a laying down position. As always, reward your pet canines with treats once he performs well. It also helps to praise them every now and then. When teaching them how to 'shake', let your dog sit down and gently grab their paw as you say 'shake'. Do this often and don't forget to give them treats as well.

Dog owners also want to teach their dogs how to do 'bye-bye'. Although this is quite hard, you can actually teach this trick to your dogs but be sure the dog is already trained with the 'shake' command. Start by gently grabbing his paw the same way you do when training the 'shake' command. However, when the dog is already in the 'shake' position, move your hands up and down and say 'bye-bye'. Your dogs can easily familiarize this when this is often done. Just make sure treats come in handy as you go with your training.
