The Miniature Pinscher - A Perfect Family Pet

There's a lot of misinformation floating around about the Miniature Pinscher. Some say this dog breed is annoying, and barks to much. Others will tell you the Min Pin is not good with children. Chances are that these are the same folks saying that Min Pins are simply small Dobermans. Of course owners of this breed know that all of those things are simply wrong.

In actuality, the Min Pin is fun loving, loyal and intelligent. He's earned his nickname as the King of the Toys.

There's no question that this breed has a bit of an attitude. They are courageous well beyond what their 10 pounds would indicate. They seem to think they weigh much more than that. You'll notice it in their proud walk with their high steps and head held high as well.

And because they are so loyal, proud and courageous, the Miniature Pinscher makes an excellent watchdog. But those same traits can make them difficult if not trained properly.

That's why it's so important for a Min Pin owner to make sure the dog knows early on who is in charge. The Miniature Pinscher will think he is until he realizes otherwise. And because he's so cute and comical, you may be tempted to let him get away with the occasional bad behavior. Do this and your dog will become a tyrant, running your home the way he sees fit. But don't let this tendency bother you because Min Pins are very intelligent and easy to train.

And if trained properly they are incredible pets. They are loving, loyal and very playful. And quite simply, they are fun to watch. They are the stand up comedians of the dog world.

Remember we mentioned that the Miniature Pinscher is good with children. There's a catch. Because the breed is very sturdy and of course playful, kids can have a tendency to play too rough. Min Pins aren't fragile, but they are only 10 pounds. Children need to keep this in mind because as we said, they certainly act like they weigh more.

We briefly mentioned loyalty earlier. There are very few dogs that are more loyal than a Min Pin. And although his tendency is to become extremely attached on one person in particular, he will get along well with everyone in your family.

Because they have so much energy, Miniature Pinschers need plenty of exercise. But the good news is that if you don't have the energy to keep up, their size means they can get all the exercise they need just running around your apartment or home. They love to play by themselves and if you're watching, they seem to perform more just for your enjoyment. You can't help but laugh.

And if you want a lap dog when play time is finished, they're happy to play that role as well. And any dog that's loyal, fun, loving and easy to care for sounds like the perfect family pet.
