Training My Dog The Right Way

It is not surprising if people tend to feel that training a dog would be daunting because it involves spending a lot of time repeating a same method over and over again ad nauseum. They would prefer to be doing something more interesting and less challenging. Actually, you could enjoy training your dog. You would certainly want your dog to be well trained that is a joy to have around. You know, of course, that dogs like humans have their own unique personalities. One must try out different training methods before deciding on which best suits your dog.

One of the training methods takes a positive approach by using rewards for the desired behavior. This involves rewarding your dog when it responds to your command as it should. Another popular training method is to use a clicker which will sound every time the dog responds correctly to a given command. The dog associates the clicker sound to approval of its behavior, because the clicker sound is always followed by a tasty morsel as its reward.

The dog responds to the click, as they know that this is followed by a reward for them. After some training, the treats can be removed from training. Your vocal responses and a pat on the head will be of more value to the dog. It will motivate your dog to want to learn.

One way of educating a dog is through Agility training. One may get surprised to know the amount of discipline required by the dog to accomplish a task. Normally the heavy and large ones will not be part of this training.

Agility training involves a dog to complete obstacles one after the other in a timely manner. This includes physical activities like crawling through a tunnel, jumping fences, wall climbing, etc.

The owner should initially guide the dog to start with and then command the dog for various activities, thus staying with the dog. Through this the dogs are trained to listen to the owner, get exercise and build team work with the owner. Agility training is so popular that lot of schools are going for it. Incase you are not able to find one around setting up the same at your back yard is also easy. You can find the items online to set up the same.

You can teach your pet almost any game. However you should mix some tricks in between training discipline which will help you dog relax and learn easily. "Shake" and "Stay" are simple tricks of great importance. The dog must sit properly to "Shake" and "Stay" command can be used when children or elderly people are visiting.

Though dog owners will prefer having a well trained dog, many owners stop training in between once they feel that the dog has learned manners. Training and guidance should continue as it strengthens the bond between you and the dog along with exercise and enjoyment you share while training. Obedience and Agility training courses are available in a lot of areas for all age groups of canine.
