If you're looking to pick up a new hobby in the form of raring tropical fishes as pets, then you should understand and accept that being a pet owner is indeed a big responsibility, as you're expected to give your utmost care and to provide them with an environment where they can thrive in. Getting ready in the form of knowing what environment will no doubt help you to pick up the hobby easier. The Fish Tank

The first thing you should get ready for is your fish's home, which is the fish tank. If you can, always choose to have the bigger tank instead of the smaller one because firstly you allow your fishes to have more room to roam around, not to mention that with a bigger tank, the temperature will be harder to alter therefore making it easier for you to regulate. Should you want more fishes in the tank later on will also be easier if you have a bigger aquarium as compared to a smaller one.

One thing you want to make sure in terms of decoration within the aquarium is to ensure that you've prepared sufficient spots for your fishes to hide from plain sight. Allowing them spaces to hide will help them cope with pressure and stress better, this is important if you're going to place the aquarium under direct sunlight, as exposure to sunlight is not particularly healthy for your fishes.

Your Fish

Many first time fish owners will make the mistake of adding a lot of different fishes into the tank at once. This is a mistake because it stresses most of them out, as they'll be trying to get used to the new environment as well as the presence of other fishes, and sometimes this can lead to the demise of them. Therefore you should start with a smaller collection before you start adding multiple fishes in.

Another very important thing you should take care of is the feeding of food. Not only you should feed them with flakes, be sure to add additional nutritional food inside to make sure that they're healthy and strong. You should also avoid overfeeding as the waste can easily clog the air filter system, if you see any flakes at the bottom of the tank, then you are overfeeding them.

Lastly, do make sure that you maintain and clean the fish tank at least twice a month. This way your pet fishes are always staying in a clean environment and reducing the risk of contracting diseases, not to mention that you want a clean tank for you to admire, not a dirty one!
