Many Horseback Riding Accident Can Be Prevented
Here are some of the tips to help assure that a day used to horseback ride goes well with not snags.
Choose a horse to ride that matches your riding skills. Be sure that the horse you choose is safe to ride in areas such as on the road where traffic could be an issue.
Wear an approved ASTN helmet that is fastened it is highly advised by trainers and owner that these approved headgear should be worn the whole time you are on your ride.
For steady motion and equilibrium shoes or boots with a 1 in heel work best.
The stirrups on the saddle should be equipped with the break-away feature especially if the rider is new or lacks much practical experience. This type of stirrup will help the rider catch themselves if they were to start to fall which will prevent being drug by the horse if they make contact with the ground.
Ride with a buddy is best and can be more fun and at least bring a cell phone or 2-way radio in case of emergency.
It may be a good idea to let someone know where you plan to ride and tell them what time you are planning on return so if something were to happen and you were not able to notify anyone, at least someone would know if you were overdue and where you should be on your Colorado land.
It is a splendid plan to go the speed of your slowest rider or the one who is the least masterful because the faster you are going the less reaction time there is to correct a loss of balance, near fall or conditions you didn't expect.
Hunting season should also be taken into consideration as safety can be very risky.
When riding at night on your Colorado land, reflective clothing should be worn and you should carry flashlights and be sure to continue only on well marked trails.
You may want to consider packing a safety kit containing sunscreen, water, snacks, a pocket knife and a halter just in case you would need to tie up.
Wearing sunscreen is a good idea in the sunny climates of Colorado, along with carrying water and some snacks with you and wearing comfortable clothing. Also be sure to get down off your horse once in a while to give everyone a rest.
