Types of Horse " What are the Differences?

There are many types of horse, which you must be familiar with if you want to learn horseback riding or own a horse for a certain purpose. Knowing each type of horse is vital because it will contribute greatly to your progress and to achieving your goal. If you and your horse cannot work well, then you will have difficulty learning and training your horse as well. The only thing you can do about it is to change your horse and find another one that will best suit your personality.

Think first of the specific characteristics that you need in a horse to accomplish your goal. For example, if your goal is to become an endurance rider, you will need a horse with enough stamina and natural endurance abilities. If you want to be a reiner, your horse should be agile, quick and very responsive. If you are interested in show jumping, then choose a horse with athletic ability and have the scope and courage to jump large fences.

A quarter horse is an American breed of horse developed for sprinting short distances. Developed as a quarter-mile racer, it features a short and stocky body, with a muscular build and a deep, broad chest. It is noted for its performance in rodeos, horse shows and as a working ranch horse. Today, it is considered to be the most popular horse in the United States, where the breed was developed.

Quarter horses are ideal for use in the ranch. They can perform short bursts of speed, quick turns and abrupt stops, which is perfect for ranching tasks, such as herding cattle. They are the fastest horse at a quarter mile track. They are spinsters, with their short and bunchy muscles, legs shorter and bodies closer to the ground.

A thoroughbred, also referred to as the English running horse, is best known for its use in horse racing. It is known for its agility, speed and spirit, and is considered to be the king of horse racing. It has a leggy appearance, a delicate head, a slim body, a broad chest and a short back. Its temperament is racy and nervous.

Thoroughbreds are perfect for running distances on a race track. They might not have to be the quickest out of the gate, but they need to be the fastest over a couple of miles to win the race. These are racers and posses the qualities that human runners exhibit. They have longer and leaner muscles, long legs and stretchy bodies.

Arabian horse refers to a horse breed that originated from the Middle East. It is one of the most recognizable horse breeds because it has a distinctive head shape and a high tail carriage. An Arabian horse is noted for its superior beauty, speed, spirit, stamina, grace of movement, and intelligence. It is compact and relatively small, with a small head, protruding eyes, wide nostrils, marked withers, and a short back.

Arabian horses are the best on long races because they are endurance horses. They have very dense bones, tremendous air capacity, large nostrils and eyes. They possess the endurance that earned them the title drinkers of the wind.
