Mini Schnauzers Give Years Of Love

Buying a family dog is a huge decision. A lot of research is involved to decide what breed will enjoy your home environment best. Then there are the things you look for in a breed, such as shedding, appearance, size, companionship and more. Exploring the possibility of owning Mini Schnauzers gives you plenty to consider.

This is especially true if you want to show your dog. Organizations issue many regulations regarding color, tail and ear size, coat and more. To show a Mini Schnauzer may require clipping ears and tail. At birth their tails are medium length and narrow. Their ears stand up high on the head then flop over in the middle. Permitted colors in the ring include mixtures of black, grey, silver and tan, while white versions are accepted in some but not other shows.

The most familiar feature of a miniature Schnauzer is its face. Long, shaggy and rectangular, the hair here is kept tidily lengthy regardless of showing or simply owning for companionship. This goes for hair at their feet as well. A double coat responds well to trimming or stripping along the rest of their bodies. Such efforts leave a smoother feel than otherwise.

There is no such thing as a non-allergenic dog. Still, certain breeds which shed little are desirable among the very sensitive. This breed is among the low-shedding varieties. Health problems for your dog can include weight issues related to diseases such as hypothyroidism.

For a companion one could hardly ask for better. Loyal and friendly, Mini Schnauzers will cleave loyally to their owners. Train them and they respond well. If you have other animals in the family, such as a cat or other dog, raise your Schnauzer with this animal and he will probably not become aggressive. Then again, they make great guard dogs.

Just keep your canine away from very small animals. He has a hunting instinct which can turn his adorable disposition into the single-mindedness of a killer. Guard your small pets or, better yet, choose a different dog to keep company with a house full of rabbits, gerbils and pet mice. Otherwise you could spend up to fifteen years fending Fido off of Hammy.

Another thing he needs is lots of exercise. Lively and playful, get him outside to run around and chase birds. He will bark for joy (or when excited, hungry, sad. Just about any time). Be prepared to train him into appropriate barking behavior and do not buy one of these lovely dogs if you are overly sensitive to noise.
