Our Best Friend, Our Dog

If you think about it Dogs are social creatures. They like very much to be around other dogs, animals or people. Dogs are closely related to wolves, and it's the nature of the dog to want to be in a pack. This is probably the reason that naturally makes our dogs want to be our best friends. Our dogs look to us for affection and companionship. The dog leaves his instinctive pack behind to adjoins himself to his new family of humans.

Dogs that become pets are very dependent of their owners. When they are in the wild they would have to find food for themselves and any pups they would have. When a dog is now your pet he relies on you to feed him and provide him with a home and protection. They become use to the regular feeding times and use to being rewarded for doing tricks or good behavior.

For dogs to have the most successful relationship with their owners, they need to be trained. An untrained dog may react in unpredictable ways, making himself a danger to himself and to others. Many schools have been successful at teaching owners how to interact with their dogs properly without being abusive. The primary means for controlling a dog in a public setting is to make use of dog collar leashes. A leash is a rope-like material usually fixed around a dog's neck which can be used as a restraint or a means to give a dog direction.

The main purpose for the leash is to keep the dog under control when you are in public places. The last thing you want is for your dog to bite or attack someone. You can get leashes in many styles, sizes or colors. You can even get nylon leashes that are adjustable.

There are some dog owners that are opposed to using dog collars leashes. They feel that it is not humane to tie up a dog or restrain him by using straps around his head. They also feel that with the use of a leash over a period of time it can cause undue strain on the dog's body and even causing long term damage to the dog's body.

Most people however understand that in public places at least such restraints are necessary to make other people feel comfortable around dogs they are not familiar with. And if a dog and his owner are well trained on the proper use of a dog collar leash the risk of injury is greatly minimized. To accommodate both lines of reasoning and at the same time provide adequate protection many leashes are designed with the dog's comfort in mind.

Not only do dog's provide the owner with some protection, they also form a strong loving relationship with them. It is much easier to form this relationship with a dog because they are so loyal, responsive and loving. So it is important we do all we can to provide them with a good home where they feel safe, loved and wanted.
