Pet Travel Is Now Possible

There are times when you are faced with an emergency and it's necessary for you to take a trip. Pets, unfortunately, aren't very accommodating in times like these. Who will take them in at such short notice? Toting your pets along with your should pose no problem, in fact it's a lot better than leaving them for a few days at some unknown shelter.

Pets are now allowed in most airlines. A few airlines will even let you allow your pet inside the passenger area as long as it would fit inside a small animal carrier. For large animals, chances are they will be held in the cargo area where the temperature and pressure is carefully controlled. Most airlines allow pets on board, but just to be sure, talk it over with airline personnel before you buy the tickets. Double check airline policies regarding pets on board, particularly if you're doing the reservations online.

It is standard procedure for airlines to request that reservations be made as well for the animals that will be brought on board so that they'll have a definite count. Booking for pet seats are no different from regular seats, there is still a chance that it will be fully booked if you don't do the reservations early on. A health certificate is necessary to bring your pet on board an aircraft. Your vet should be able to provide you with one, but then it's valid for 10 days only. Since it will last for 10 days only, you may have to procure another one for your return trip home if your journey takes longer.

Your pet has to be confined in a kennel or animal carrier during the flight. It should be easy enough to get one from a nearby pet store. There's a wide variety to choose from, most come with padded walls and different sizes to accommodate animals of any size. Before you purchase one, make sure the kennel you chose would pass airline standards. Don't be afraid to ask the personnel if you don't know which one to purchase.

Tranquilizing your pet is no longer an issue. Your pet would probably be sleeping during the whole flight anyway. What you can do is to train your pet to stay in the crate during the flight. Once you've done that then you're good to go! So have a happy trip with your pet!
