Ragdoll Kittens - A Popular Choice Among Cat Lovers
The Ragdoll breed is slow to mature and don't reach their full potential weight until three years old or older. They are large cats with semi longhair and a study body and frame, which is needed because they can weigh up to twenty pounds at full maturity. Generally females weigh anywhere from eight to fifteen pounds, but males get much larger with a weight anywhere from twelve to twenty pounds. Although large, they're very laid back.
Ragdoll cats love to cuddle and be very affectionate. They can be like little puppies, following you around the house and even want to join into the family activities. They are not the typical independent and aloof cat. They have shown that they can get along and adapt to a new family or other animals in the home. But like humans, each cat will have its own personality, although for the most part they are gentle, quiet, and docile.
The points of the body, which are the ears, face, and tail, are the dark parts of this breeds coloring, earning them the name of Pointed cats. Their main color is white or cream, but all kittens are born white and all have blue eyes. They come in three main pattern types: Mitted, Points, and Bicolor. But they come in six main colors: seal, blue, lilac, chocolate, flame, and cream.
When the cat has the dark coloring only around the points of the body with no white anywhere in the coat, it is considered a Points pattern. The Mitted is the same but has white. There will be white in front of the feet and white boots, the belly will have a white stripe, and the chin will be white. A blaze pattern occurs on some, this is a white line or spot on the face. To help distinguish them from the Birmans, the Mitted must have a belly stripe that goes from the chin the whole way to the genitals, and it must have a white chin.
The Bicolor is the only pattern with a lot of white in it. All four paws are white along with the underbody and chest. Their most distinguishing marking is the upside down V on the face in white. There are a few with white patches on the back also. When a cat has an excessive amount of white, then they are known to have a Van pattern. That doesn't occur too often though. A Bicolor pattern only has dark colors on the tail, ears, and the outside of the mask.
This is considered an excellent breed for shows and why many choose it. But its temperament and beauty also make it a favorite for individuals and families alike. Ragdoll kittens add something to a family, not only are they docile and loving cats who love to play, they are very intelligent. The color combinations and patterns possible are many with this breed, which makes each one very unique.
