Tips For Your Plans To Build A Chicken Coop
Before you build your chicken coop, you need to determine the population of your chickens. The total number of chicken is your basis for the size of their home. You have to provide your chickens a place that can accommodate their growth. The space should be enough according to their number.
Constructing a chicken coop of the right size will ensure proper growth of chickens. They can roam freely and comfortably around. Chicken can hurt themselves if they don't have sufficient house area. To ensure safety of the chickens, give them a house with enough room for their number.
After determining the population and size of the coop you will build, check your location. The place where you will build your chicken coop should be safe. Ensure that there are no predators nearby that will attack the chickens later on. The possible predators that can steal you poultry are snakes, predator birds and big rats. If you're unsure of their presence, make a chicken coop that will prevent their entrance.
The third thing you have to check is the cleanliness of the location. Dirty location will easily allow the spread of disease among your poultry. Bacteria will thrive in unclean surroundings and they multiply fast making rapid spread of disease. Aside from maintaining cleanliness, ensure that the area has good ventilation and lighting. This helps keep chicken safe and comfortable.
After ensuring a safe and clean surroundings, check the environmental climate. Be sure that you used the right materials in constructing the chicken coops. Use construction materials that can provide the chickens warmth during cold weather. During hot weather, be certain that air can enter the coop to prevent suffocation.
An additional consideration to take note of is the number of coops you will build. You do not only need one coop because you need to separate the chickens. You cannot mix together the small chicks with the large ones because accidents happen. The small ones could be suffocated because large chickens can cover or step on them.
After you are done with building the chicken coops, place the chicken's food containers inside. Be sure that there is sufficient number of water containers to sustain the chicken's needs. Refill the containers with water always so that chickens will not die of thirst. Do not place only one food plate because some chicken cannot get their share.
When you are growing poultry, you have to study how to raise them. Your plans to build a chicken coop must be well prepared.
